The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has rolled out a pilot project to address pothole repairs during the monsoon using innovative Ecofix mix technology. The initiative, announced by BBMP Chief Engineer B.S. Prahlad, aims to provide a sustainable and efficient solution to the city's long-standing pothole problems, which contribute to traffic congestion and accidents.

The project commenced with the repair of potholes near Avenue Road, close to the Anjaneya Temple. Developed by the Central Road Research Institute (CSIR-CRRI) in partnership with Ramco Global Services, the Ecofix technology uses steel slag, a byproduct of steel production, as its primary material.

Unlike traditional methods, the Ecofix mix does not require dehydration, making it particularly effective for water-filled potholes, a common issue during Bengaluru's rainy season. According to a BBMP release, the use of industrial waste aligns with environmentally conscious urban infrastructure practices, addressing both waste management and road safety concerns.

The BBMP's adoption of Ecofix technology represents an experimental approach to urban road maintenance, with the potential to expand citywide if successful. The pilot aims to assess the durability and performance of the Ecofix mix under challenging weather conditions.

This trial run reflects Bengaluru's commitment to innovative solutions in civic infrastructure, setting a potential precedent for other cities facing similar challenges.
