BBMP plans to install 247 high-rise pedestrian crossings in city
Each of these crossings is estimated to cost between Rs 2 to 3 lakh
HRPCs are speed bumps with flat top and crosswalk markings
Bengaluru’s civic body, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), has announced plans to install 247 high-rise pedestrian crossings (HRPC) across the city to address the vulnerability of pedestrians to accidents while crossing roads. Each of these crossings is estimated to cost between Rs 2 to 3 lakh.
HRPCs are speed bumps that feature a distinctive flat top with crosswalk markings.
The decision comes after a request from the traffic police last year for the installation of HRPCs to enhance pedestrian safety. However, due to financial constraints and ongoing civic projects, the initiative was delayed until now.
The locations earmarked for the HRPCs are spread across various neighbourhoods including Pulikeshinagar, Bytarayanapura, High Grounds, JB Nagar, Banaswadi, and Talaghattapura.
Residents have welcomed the move, emphasizing the dire need for safer pedestrian infrastructure. Pedestrians highlighted the challenges faced by them walking along promenade road due to congestion and inadequate pedestrian facilities.
