The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is set to relocate 52 bus stops across the city after a survey by the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) and Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) found them to be unscientifically placed, causing traffic disruptions.

BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath reportedly confirmed that the process of shifting these bus stops is underway and will be completed soon. The decision aims to ease congestion and enhance commuter safety.

The placement of these stops has led to major traffic bottlenecks, affecting motorists, pedestrians, and bus drivers alike. BMTC buses stop dangerously close to turning points at certain bus stops, obstructing visibility for other vehicles. Similarly there are also bus stops located very close to busy traffic signals, causing congestion and inconvenience to passengers and road users.

BMTC drivers highlight the difficulties posed by such stops where stopping amid peak-hour traffic is challenging.

As part of the initiative, some bus stops in high-traffic zones like Goraguntepalya and Hebbal have already been shifted. However, officials note that space constraints limit their ability to relocate some stops beyond 50 metres.

Meanwhile, bus bays built to reduce road congestion remain underutilized as many bus drivers stop on main roads instead, forcing commuters to rush from designated bays to board buses.

BBMP is expected to complete the relocation of the 52 identified stops in the coming days.
