Bengaluru’s civic body, the BBMP, is set to distribute 10,000 pushcarts to registered street vendors this year, following court directives restricting roadside shops. So far, 3,778 vendors have applied, with authorities urging more to register before the April-end deadline. After that, unregistered vendors risk eviction.

Currently, 27,565 street vendors are officially registered, and the initiative aims to streamline street vending while ensuring compliance with regulations. The government has also announced financial aid for eligible vendors. The pushcarts will be available in four models—auto, bicycle, bike, and traditional—procured through a tendering process.
To maintain fairness, officials have mandated that each family will receive only one pushcart. Vendors must operate in designated areas, and carts cannot be left idle or resold. The move is intended to regulate street vending while supporting livelihoods.
In a separate development, Bengaluru is set to become India’s first city to offer doorstep delivery of digitised property records starting in April. Property owners will be able to apply for missing documents, with awareness drives planned across constituencies to ensure public participation.
These initiatives reflect the city’s efforts to balance urban order with economic sustainability, providing structured support for street vendors while enhancing digital governance.
