Bengaluru is set to receive a much-needed boost in its battle against chronic parking shortages with a new multi-level car parking complex at Gandhi Bazaar. Developed at a cost of ₹22 crore by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the facility will soon be open to the public.
Strategically located in one of the city’s busiest areas, the parking complex spans four levels, offering space for 124 vehicles—31 per floor. The ground floor has been designed to accommodate 50 commercial shops, enhancing both utility and revenue generation. Key infrastructure includes a lift and six toilets to ensure public convenience.
BBMP Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao recently conducted an inspection of the site, along with ongoing streetscaping efforts along Gandhi Bazaar Main Road. He emphasized maintaining pedestrian-friendly zones, directing that footpaths remain free from hawkers and encroachments.
At Banashankari Circle, Rao explored ways to optimize existing BMRCL parking zones and adjacent spaces to accommodate local street vendors, aiming to strike a balance between urban infrastructure and livelihood needs.
Senior civic officials accompanied Rao during these inspections.
