In a groundbreaking move, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has launched the ‘Bayasidanthe Bayalu’ campaign to revitalize Bengaluru’s underutilized public spaces, aiming to enhance the city’s aesthetic and functional appeal. Announced on June 10, 2025, this initiative invites citizens, architects, and urban designers to identify neglected areas for redevelopment by June 19, 2025. The campaign targets spaces beyond parks and lakes, focusing on everyday urban zones like street corners, community gathering spots, and transport hubs. BBMP aims to transform these into vibrant, accessible areas, fostering community engagement and urban pride.

The campaign categorizes public spaces into four types: community areas like village courtyards for relaxation or worship; unused spaces under flyovers, metro lines, or near canals; multipurpose streets such as market lanes or school zones; and transport-related spaces like bus stops, metro stations, and pedestrian bridges. BBMP’s Chief Engineer, M Lokesh, emphasized that selected locations will be added to a citywide database, with priority areas slated for redevelopment over the next five years. This aligns with the ‘Brand Bengaluru’ initiative, which seeks to elevate the city’s global image through strategic urban planning.
Public participation is central to the campaign. Residents can submit suggestions via BBMP’s online portal, ensuring a collaborative approach. Social media posts on X highlight enthusiasm, with citizens praising BBMP’s vision for a cleaner, more beautiful Bengaluru. The initiative follows recent beautification efforts at key junctions like Windsor Manor Circle, though some residents urge focus on outer areas like Peenya and Whitefield. By reimagining neglected spaces, BBMP aims to make Bengaluru a model of urban innovation.
