In the wake of the tragic stampede that claimed 11 lives during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) IPL victory celebrations, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken a decisive step. During its 28th Apex Council Meeting held on Saturday, BCCI announced the formation of a high-level committee to formulate preventive guidelines for large-scale celebratory events.

The move comes as part of the board’s effort to ensure safety and avoid future mishaps during cricket-related public gatherings. The panel will be chaired by Devajit Saikia and will include Prabhtej Singh Bhatia and Rajeev Shukla as members. Their mandate is to draft comprehensive and practical safety measures, streamline crowd management protocols, and coordinate closely with local authorities to handle similar high-attendance events effectively.

The tragic incident in Bengaluru raised questions over the coordination between the cricket administration and civic agencies, sparking public outrage. This newly formed committee aims to fill those gaps through a clear and actionable framework. The panel’s findings and recommendations will likely influence future BCCI and franchise celebrations, particularly in high-density urban areas.
Besides the committee announcement, the council also finalized venues for India's upcoming white-ball series against New Zealand and released the domestic cricket schedule for the 2025-26 season. However, the spotlight remains on the urgent need for public safety during fan-centric celebrations.
