The inaugural IndiGo flight from Belagavi to Delhi was marked by an announcement in Kannada by pilot Akshay Patil of the Interglobe Aviation Limited (IndiGo) who also hails from Belagavi. His co-pilot Sagar Patil also hailed from Belagavi. The Instrument Landing System (ILS) which facilitates flights to arrive even during rain and conditions resulting in low visibility, was also installed in the Belagavi airport. Earlier SpiceJet operated in this route to a considerable amount of occupancy but the company cancelled flights along this route owing to financial constraints. Army personnel and businessmen constitute the primary commuters via flight to Delhi from Belagavi.
Airbus A320- 251N has been designated for this route. 2 flights would be functional per day on this route. The flight would take 2 hours and 20 minutes to reach the destination. The price range for the tickets is between Rs 4500 to Rs 5500.

Akshay Patil thanked Iranna Kadadi, Member of Parliament from the Bharatiya Janata Party in the Rajya Sabha, for his proactive approach in making sure that these improvements in facilities are meted out to the Belagavi city. “ I wish that more flights operate from North Karnataka. There is a scope for an international airport in this region as well. Hubli, Belgaum and now even Bijapur are equipped for this,” Akshay stated.
