The high-speed Vande Bharat Express, currently operating between Bengaluru and Dharwad, is set to be extended to Belagavi, marking a significant boost to rail connectivity in North Karnataka. The decision has received formal approval from Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, as confirmed by Belagavi MP Jagadish Shettar in an official communication.

Once the extension is implemented, the train will begin its journey from Belagavi in the morning, providing early-day access to Bengaluru. Presently, the train departs from Dharwad at 1:15 p.m. and reaches Bengaluru by 7:45 p.m., catering primarily to afternoon travelers.
The move comes in response to persistent demands from public representatives and stakeholders in the region. The request for extending the service has been a long-standing one, supported by senior leaders including Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, Minister of State for Railways V. Somanna, MP Jagadish Shettar, and Rajya Sabha Member Iranna Kadadi.
Belagavi, a key commercial and administrative hub in North Karnataka, currently has limited access to semi-high-speed train services. At present, it is served by another Vande Bharat Express that operates on the Pune-Hubballi route. The addition of this new connection is expected to ease travel for passengers commuting between Belagavi and Bengaluru, reducing dependency on road travel and enhancing regional mobility.
The extension is expected to be operational soon, pending logistical arrangements and final scheduling by Indian Railways.
