In a heartbreaking incident in Gokak town’s Mahalingeshwar Nagar, relentless rainfall caused a wall collapse that claimed the life of a three-year-old girl. The victim, Keerthika Nagesh Poojari, was fast asleep in a room when the wall of a neighboring house gave way and fell onto her family’s home.

The collapse left Keerthika fatally injured, while her mother Reshma and her sister Khushi sustained severe injuries. Both were rushed to the Gokak taluk hospital for immediate treatment. Local authorities report that the wall had weakened due to days of continuous heavy rain, which has saturated the ground and compromised structural integrity in several parts of the region.

This tragedy comes just a week after another fatal incident in Gokak, where a man was swept away in a stormwater drain. The back-to-back incidents have raised concerns among local residents about the safety of aging and poorly maintained structures, especially in areas prone to flooding and waterlogging during heavy monsoon rains.

Upon learning of the incident, city municipality officials and taluk administration authorities visited the scene to assess the situation and begin necessary safety inspections. Preliminary reports suggest that the adjacent house’s wall was in a deteriorated condition, exacerbated by the recent downpours.

Authorities are urging residents in vulnerable areas to exercise caution, especially during this intense monsoon period. Inspections and safety measures are expected to be heightened in the coming days to prevent further tragedies.
