BEML Ltd. has been awarded the contract to supply 138 metro coaches for Bengaluru’s upcoming Pink Line, aimed at accelerating the project’s readiness for operations. These coaches will form 23 six-car train sets, each designed to serve the growing urban transit demands of the city.

The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) is moving closer to completing the 21.26 km Pink Line, which will connect Kalena Agrahara in the south to Nagawara in the north. While civil construction for the elevated section is complete, the underground stretch is nearing 90% completion. However, the line’s operational launch remains heavily dependent on the availability of rolling stock — a key issue that previously caused delays on the Yellow Line.

Under the agreement, each coach is estimated at ₹9.99 crore, covering both manufacturing and long-term maintenance. BEML’s scope also includes upkeep for 15 years, ensuring consistent service quality over time.

BMRCL targets a phased launch, with the elevated corridor likely operational by mid-2026. However, timelines are contingent on the punctual delivery and integration of the trains. Following third rail energization, the system will undergo extensive trials, including signaling, telecom, and load testing. These tests are expected to span four months before final safety approval from the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) can be obtained.

The addition of the Pink Line is expected to significantly boost network connectivity across Bengaluru.
