Road accidents are orchestrated to rob vehicle occupants
The MO involves forcing out occupants out of the car
Two incidents throw more light on the issue
In two shocking incidents that have the potential to besmirch the reputation of Bengaluru as a safe city, a lady was chased and almost forced into paying a huge sum on the pretext of a road accident. On similar lines, a driver was almost trapped on NICE road as a cement block was thrown, thus damaging his windshield.
In the first incident that took place at Sarjapur, a few miscreants chased her for a few kilometers and stopped her car. They cooked up a story that their vehicles were damaged as they chased the car. Later, they demanded she get down from the car and cough up a hefty fine.
But the lady didn’t budge an inch. She mustered courage and dialled her friends and even the cops. Fortunately, they arrived in the nick of time, saving her.
Her husband Srijan Shetty, shared the ordeal online.
“If it wouldn’t have been for her wits of calling the cops and then calling us and 10 of her friends to immediately join her at her location, the incident could have taken a different turn,” he said.
I’ve never felt unsafe in Bangalore – I know my privilege of being a Kannada speaking male – but last Thursday night I felt how unsafe certain parts of the city are post 10pm.
I’ve seen those horrific videos of fake accidents in Sarjapur where hooligans have tried to blackmail… pic.twitter.com/lwHK8dymZM

In the second incident, a motorist was targeted as he used the NICE road at 2: 30 am. Fortunately, he did not step out of the car, else he would have been attacked.
The common thread in such phoney accidents is to drive the occupants of the car out of it and then, rob them or the vehicle.
