This ancient tree, believed to be over one and a half centuries old, had grown uniquely with massive branches extending in a "V" shape and a hollow trunk in the middle. Over time, the internal hollowing had weakened the tree structurally. With the added burden of rain and wind, the tree collapsed, splitting into parts where the trunk was hollow.

This Ficus Cunninghamii species, known for its small fruit, was also a favorite among local birds. It had become a vital part of Lalbagh’s biodiversity and a comforting green canopy for the many visitors who frequented the garden daily.

Regular visitors to Lalbagh expressed their grief. "We’ve been seeing this tree for over 20 years," said one elderly walker. "It gave shade to everyone. Now, there’s only sunlight here, it feels empty."

The fallen tree has become a symbol of nature’s fragility and a reminder of the importance of preserving heritage trees with care. Authorities are expected to assess the condition of other old trees in the garden to prevent similar incidents.
