According to Shivakumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of Whitefield Division, Praveen had been immersed in gambling to the extent that he stopped attending college. Despite his addiction, his parents were unaware of his activities until the tragedy unfolded.
On November 26, Praveen was found hanging in his room, leading his father to file a complaint. Investigations revealed that Praveen was being harassed by loan sharks, who reportedly took away his gambling winnings and blackmailed him for repayment. The persistent pressure from creditors is believed to have driven him to take this extreme step.
The Whitefield police have registered an FIR and are conducting a thorough investigation into the incident. This tragic case highlights the growing dangers of online betting, particularly among vulnerable youth. The authorities are urging parents to be vigilant and monitor the activities of their children to prevent such incidents.
Praveen’s untimely death serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of gambling addiction.
