Railway level crossings have been a spot for the slowing down of traffic for quite some decades. The Rail Infrastructure Development Company (Karnataka) (K-RIDE) would bring some relief in this regard. In 26 locations across the city, railway crossings would be done away with. Instead over bridges and under bridges would be constructed based on the feasibility in these locations. This would be part of a 149 kilometre suburban rail project in the city.
6 of these are along the Yeshwantpur- Yelahanka region. 7 of these are in the Byappanahalli- Chikkabanavara region. These are bound to be completed by the end of September 2024. 2 are in the Kengeri- Majestic bus stop region. 6 of these would be in the Heelegali- Byappanahalli stretch. These are bound to be completed by October 2025. One of these would be in the Byappanahalli- Yelahanka stretch. 4 of these would be in the Yelahanka- Rajanukunte stretch.
K-RIDE would be a joint venture between the central and the state government. It is envisioned that the sub urban rail project across the city of Bengaluru would be near completion by 2028. This specific initiative is estimated to reduce waiting time by a minimum of 15 minutes when executed.
