Manipal Hospitals in a tie up with Bengaluru City Traffic Police launched the first phase of the ‘Guardian of the Heart 2.0’ campaign that included CPR Training for traffic police. 40 junctions across the city would be acquiring heart-shaped symbols for the traffic lights along with (Save our Souls) SOS QR code signage. These codes are designed to facilitate emergency medical care on the roads of Bengaluru. Ambulances would receive the distress signals during mishaps.

M.N. Anucheth, IPS, Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Bengaluru City stated the heart-shaped signals might motivate people to adhere to the traffic signal while driving.

Although the initiative has been taken up by Manipal Hospitals, the ambulances would dispatch patients to nearby hospitals based on need and availability.

Dr. Ranjan Shetty, HOD & Consultant – Interventional Cardiology, Manipal Hospital, Old Airport Road, Bengaluru mentioned, “This QR code has been a unique initiative by Manipal Hospitals and a great benchmark for digitization as well as enhanced road safety. We have also been actively training each of the traffic officers about CPR so that they become empowered and transform Bengaluru into a heart-smart city.”

Meanwhile, this initiative was well received by the people of Bengaluru. “It is so cute, I saw it for 20 minutes straight,” a user commented on Instagram. “Bengaluru is making me blush,” another user remarked.
