In a swift and effective operation, the Jnanabharathi Police rescued a 5-year-old child who had gone missing from Visverayya Layout, Bengaluru, on June 21. The child, belonging to Siddappa and Veeramma, was last seen playing near their home when she suddenly disappeared.

Worried parents immediately lodged a missing person’s complaint at the Jnanabharathi Police Station. The investigation faced an initial hurdle due to several non-functional CCTV cameras in the area, affected by ongoing BESCOM maintenance work. However, a crucial clue came in the form of a piece of the child’s clothing found near the spot where she was last seen.

To accelerate the search, police deployed the dog squad, which picked up the child’s scent and led officers nearly half a kilometer away to a residence in the locality. Upon investigation, a woman found at the location was detained for questioning.

During interrogation, the woman, identified as a native of Raichur and known to the child’s parents, confessed to having taken the child. Further verification through working CCTV footage confirmed that the woman had lifted the child and later moved her to Raichur.

With timely coordination, the child was safely recovered and brought back to Bengaluru. Two women, identified as Basamma and Sulochana, have been taken into custody for further investigation. A case has been registered at the Jnanabharathi Police Station.

The rescue operation was completed within 24 hours.
