An incident wherein a young girl died upon allegedly having come in contact with an electric wire has come to the forefront from the Prestige Lakeside Habitat Apartment in the Varthur region of Bengaluru. The deceased individual has been identified as 10-year-old Maanya. The incident unfolded at around 7:30 PM on December 28th. Maanya was playing near the swimming pool of the apartment when the tragedy unfolded. It is believed that a contact with the electric wire rendered her unconscious. She was found inside the swimming pool. The possibility of having accidentally drowned is also being explored. She was immediately taken to a nearby hospital. 

She received treatment in Sahastra hospital. She however did not respond well to it. She passed away in the hospital. A post-mortem report will ascertain the cause of death and throw light on the circumstances leading to it.

 Her family members were covered in a cloud of grief. A complaint has been filed in the Varthur Police Station by her parents. 

Apartment residents protested outside the Apartment Association’s houses following this tragedy. It is being reported that complaints of a live wire and instances of shock have been recorded near the swimming pool in the past as well but no action was initiated against this.
