Absence of mass recruiters this academic year in engineering colleges

Companies that hired in huge numbers are recruiting only limited pool of candidates

Campus placement offers have dwindled to only 20-30 students from approx 250

Engineering college campuses are experiencing a notable absence of mass recruiters this academic year, with numerous institutions, including prestigious ones, reporting a shift in recruitment patterns.

Companies that traditionally hired in large numbers are now recruiting only a limited pool of candidates.

Despite assertions from top colleges that there is no shortage of opportunities for their students due to an increased number of company visits, a significant change is evident.

The distinct feature of this academic year is the non-participation of mass recruiters, known for offering jobs with lower salary packages. Previously, these recruiters would extend annual packages ranging from Rs 6-8 lakh to approximately 250 students. However, this year, the offers have dwindled to only 20-30 students.

Conversely, there has been a substantial surge in higher salary packages, with an increase of at least 30%, consequently elevating the average salary. In fields such as computer science and information science, the average salary now stands at Rs 20 lakh. Nevertheless, the selection process has become more rigorous, and corporate expectations have heightened.

The landscape of entry-level jobs has evolved with technological advancements, leading to increased expectations from corporates. This shift has correspondingly raised the salary range, with a growing number of companies offering packages of Rs 10 lakh and above.

Despite this positive trend, some academicians argue that the absence of mass recruiters constitutes a significant setback for engineering colleges. This factor is contributing to a decline in campus recruitments this year, affecting even top-tier institutions, which are witnessing a notable reduction, with some reporting only 10% of the usual recruitment figures. A notable shift toward online recruitment methods is observed, as many recruiters are opting not to visit physical institutions.
