According to officials, the complainant—a 42-year-old tech professional—approached the Lokayukta after the officers allegedly sought money in exchange for investigating and arresting the fraudsters. A sting operation was set up, leading to ASI Krishna Murthy’s arrest while accepting ₹2 lakh as payment. Following further inquiries, ACP Tanveer S R was also taken into custody.
In separate corruption cases across Karnataka, four government officials from different districts were also caught accepting bribes. In Ramanagara, a Panchayat Development Officer was arrested for soliciting money to clear MGNREGA scheme payments. A bank supervisor in Chitradurga was held for demanding ₹15,000 to process farmers' loans. Meanwhile, two Forest Department employees in Belagavi were booked for taking ₹7,000 to dismiss legal action under the Wildlife Protection Act.
With these arrests, the Lokayukta has reinforced its anti-corruption efforts, urging the public to report instances of bribery or misconduct.
