In a case of alleged medical negligence at KC General Hospital in Bengaluru, a doctor refused to perform a cesarean operation, thereby leading to the death of the unborn child.

It’s alleged that the family of Devika, the mother, urged the doctor to perform the operation as she had exceeded the 9 months of pregnancy. But the doctor at the hospital urged Devika to go for a normal delivery.

However, a few days later, it is alleged that the doctor decided to perform the cesarean operation as normal delivery was not an option at that point in time. She even asked the mother to be ready.

As the mother got ready, the doctor further informed that the foetus had drunk contaminated water and had resultantly passed away.

The hospital’s version:

As the issue has gained massive recognition, Dr Mohan, medical officer, has issued a clarification. He said that it was Dr Vijayalakshmi who was treating the patient. She had given December 10 as the date of delivery. But as the heartbeat was low, she decided to shift the child to the NICU. He asserted that the doctor reiterated that there was no lapse on her part, but has ordered an enquiry into the issue and promised action in case of any negligence.
