Bengaluru: AMD to invest 400 million dollars in India, plan to expand design center in Bengaluru

SemiconIndia 2023 that was held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat after being inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was attended by Mark Papermaster, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, AMD (Advanced Micro Devices). AMD is a US based global semiconductor company that manufactures computer processors and accessory technologies. 

Mark Papermaster announced in the meeting that the company plans on investing 400 million dollars. As part of this plan, a new design center would be opened in Bengaluru that would also be the company's largest. It is estimated that a total of 3000 engineering roles would be generated as per these plans. This would be the 10th office of the company in India. The plan is to have this new facility functional before the start of 2023. The center would have laboratory facilities and advanced tools at the dispensation of the researchers. 

“AMD has one of the industry’s broadest product portfolios fueled by growth in artificial intelligence, networking and 6G communications. By further investing and expanding our presence in Bangalore, we are committed to driving innovation in India to support the India Semiconductor Mission," Mark Papermaster said. 

"We welcome the AMD plan to expand its leading-edge R&D engineering operations in India," said Mr. Ashwini Vaishnaw, Telecommunications, Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India.
