The incident of BBMP marshals trying to clear footpath encroachments in Mahadevapura, turned bizarre with an eatery owner pouring sambar on himself to protest against the marshals who tried to clear his makeshift eatery from the footpath.

Following many complaints from residents and businesses on footpath encroachments, BBMP had recently launched a drive to clear all the footpath encroachments in Mahadevapura area on ITPL main road.

The eatery owner was angered by the BBMP’s move to clear his makeshift eatery and take away his livelihood.

BBMP marshals were on their duty to shut down makeshift establishments by vendors on pavements and clear the pavement for walkers.

The eatery owner not only tried to pour sambar on himself but also destroyed the furniture and appliances while shouting at the marshals. The video of this incident had gone viral on the social media.

Even as the BBMP marshals tried on convincing him of their duty to follow directions from BBMP, the owner yet went berserk as the incident unfolded. A complaint and an FIR has been registered against him.

According to BBMP sources, those evicted in the encroachment drive would be provided with alternative places to run their business in the same area.
