Have Marshals become a source of unwanted expenditure for the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP)? Has the recruitment of Marshals had a positive impact on the BBMP.
President of BJP’s Bengaluru South Unit NR Ramesh has raised his voice for this cause. He submitted a complaint to the Deputy Chief Minister of the state of Karnataka DK Shivakumar , Chief Commissioner of the BBMP Tushar Giri and BBMP Administrator Rakesh Singh pertaining to this.
The complaint throws light on some key facts. There are 750 marshals across 198 wards. The increase in productivity owing to their recruitment has been a meagre 35%. In 156 districts, there are insufficient vehicles for waste collection. The figures suggesting that 42 marshals have been stationed along 2 lakes is false. Their monthly salary is Rs 17,000. Rs 2.01 crore is being dispensed for their salary on a monthly basis. Rs 15.7 crore has been spent since 2017. Despite this only around 25 percent of the pending work of BBMP is at a stage of completion.
He requested for the marshals to be relieved. He stated that the issue would be presented to Lokayukta if his request is not considered.
The complaint has suggested that there is something fishy about this affair. The BBMP is yet to reply to this.
