A shocking incident of burglary and linguistic chauvinism has come to light in Bengaluru, where a Spanish national, Jesus Abrielle, was victimized. Abrielle, residing in the Nydus apartment complex on Langford Road, dialled the emergency number 112 after hearing burglars break into his house around 2 am on Wednesday.

Despite attempting to explain his situation in English and Spanish, the helpline operator insisted that he speak in Kannada and disconnected the call. The burglars made off with valuables worth Rs 82,000, including Abrielle's laptop, platinum ring, and identification documents.
Abrielle remained trapped in his room for six hours, finally contacting his landlord Sudeep at 8:30 am. The police have filed a case under sections 305 and 331 of the BNS, suspecting the burglars to be labourers from a nearby construction site. This incident raises concerns about linguistic bias and the effectiveness of emergency services in Bengaluru.
