Bengaluru residents may soon face higher auto-rickshaw fares as the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) plans to meet with city auto unions on December 23 to discuss a fare revision. Auto drivers are demanding an increase in the minimum fare from ₹30 to ₹40 for the first two kilometers and from ₹15 to ₹20 for each additional kilometer.

The proposed revision comes as drivers highlight the growing financial strain due to rising auto LPG prices, maintenance costs, and general inflation. With auto LPG now priced at ₹61.49 per liter in Bengaluru, drivers argue that the current fare structure has become unviable.
This would mark the first fare hike since December 2021, and only the third revision in the past decade. Drivers assert that previous adjustments have not kept pace with the increasing cost of living and operational expenses, including the rising prices of new auto-rickshaws.
The outcome of the December 23 meeting will determine whether the fare increase is implemented. If approved, commuters in Bengaluru may soon need to pay higher rates for auto-rickshaw rides, as drivers seek relief from their mounting financial burdens.
