Bengaluru: Bangalore University adapts DrillBit, a cutting-edge plagiarism software for enhancing academic integrity

Bangalore University has recently taken a significant step in enhancing academic integrity by integrating DrillBit, a cutting-edge plagiarism detection software, into its system for scrutinizing research reports and articles submitted by students.

The decision to implement this software was prompted by the recommendations of the University Grants Commission (UGC), an authoritative body overseeing higher education in India. The initiative, executed in November 2023, reinforces the university's commitment to maintaining the highest standards of academic honesty.

This move builds upon Bangalore University's existing efforts to combat plagiarism, as the institution has employed plagiarism detection software since 2015. However, the adoption of DrillBit represents a strategic upgrade in their arsenal against academic misconduct.

The university's decision aligns with its dedication to upholding academic excellence, especially in its doctoral programs.

With approximately 2,500 candidates actively pursuing a Ph.D. at the institution, and an annual conferment of over 300 Ph.D. degrees, the implementation of DrillBit is poised to significantly strengthen the academic vetting process.
