The Urban Development Department of BBMP, under the direction of Undersecretary Laxmi Prasad, issued the order, which will take effect starting tonight. This change comes after persistent lobbying by the hospitality sector, which has been advocating for longer operating hours to cater to customer demand and boost business.

PC Rao, president of the hoteliers association, expressed gratitude towards the government for this decision. “We had submitted a proposal seeking extended operating hours for bars and restaurants in 10 Mahanagara Palikes. This new order is a positive step for the industry, and we are thankful to the government for considering our request,” Rao stated.

It is important to note that the extension earlier had applied exclusively to commercial establishments. The order marks a significant shift in the city’s nightlife, promising increased business for bars and restaurants and offering more flexibility for patrons looking to enjoy late-night dining and socializing.

This policy change aligns Bengaluru with other major cities in India where hospitality establishments have extended operating hours, reflecting the city’s evolving lifestyle and increasing demand for vibrant nightlife options. The hospitality sector is optimistic that this move will lead to greater economic benefits and enhance the city’s appeal as a cosmopolitan hub.
