The long-vacant Basaveshwara Bus Stand in Peenya, Bengaluru, is poised for a new lease of life as a National Skill Development Centre. The Central Government's National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) has proposed repurposing the facility to train skilled workers for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Constructed in 2013 at a cost of ₹39.28 crore on an 8.6-acre plot, the bus stand was intended to alleviate pressure on the KSRTC terminal in Majestic.
NSIC has identified the Basaveshwara Bus Stand as a potential site for its skill development centre and has conducted two inspections alongside discussions with KSRTC. If approved, the facility will undergo a significant transformation into a training hub. KSRTC officials have expressed willingness to lease or rent the premises to the Centre, with final terms under negotiation.
Efforts to commercially repurpose the site have repeatedly faltered. KSRTC’s attempts to lease the property for uses such as malls, hospitals, or educational institutions attracted no bidders in tenders floated in 2023 and December 2024. Meanwhile, the bus stand's maintenance costs, including security, electricity, and water bills, continue to strain KSRTC's resources.
The proposed centre could mark a turning point, offering a meaningful use for the long-neglected facility.
