  • The oral suspension can be administered easily
  • Taking tablets not easy as they had to be crushed
  • The project was taken up under Make In India

You may be surprised to know that as many as 76,805 children die of cancer in India annually. The most common form of cancer is Leukemia, or in simple terms, blood cancer.

Now, in order to fight this disease, IDRS, a Bengaluru-based lab has come up with an oral suspension that can be used as a syrup and given to children.

Speaking exclusively with NewsFirst Prime, Shivakumar, Manager, IDRS, elaborates on the need for such a suspension. He says, “Though there is a tablet formulation, it has to be crushed and the exact dose to be given is difficult. It is very difficult to measure the quantity. This is the challenge we faced.”

How to use the suspension?

“Water needs to be put in a bottle that contains the powder. After doing this, using the syringe provided, you can administer the prescribed quantity. With this, you are also preventing the side-effects that might be a consequence of wrong dosage.”

Incidentally, this is the first lab in the entire nation to have come up with this idea. The lab collaborated with doctors of Tata Memorial Centre in Mumbai.

At the same time, it has also been made under the Make In India concept, which is also noteworthy.
