Meeting involving INC MLAs was held

Meeting was presided by DCM DK Shivakumar

Delimitation of wards was a cause for delay

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) plays a major role in the development of the Bengaluru city. The elections for the BBMP were originally scheduled to be held in 2020. However the lockdown caused by the Covid-19 virus pandemic has resulted in delays. This has meant that the BBMP officials have a lesser degree of scrutiny in their functioning.

The term of BBMP officers came to an end in September. Close to one entire term has transpired without a mayor being elected. Reports suggest that the Karnataka Government is inclined towards conducting the elections soon. Preparations for this are underway. A meeting was arranged after the conclusion of the third phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections. Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) from the Indian National Congress (INC) were part of the meeting that was presided over by the Deputy Chief Minister (DCM) of Karnataka DK Shivakumar. Speculations that the elections might take place during Dussehra are making rounds. The delimitation of the wards was one of the reasons for the delay.

The INC looks at this as an opportunity to energise its cadre who worked for a good performance in the Vidhana Sabha and Lok Sabha elections. It is also looking to reduce the influence of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs in Bengaluru.
