In a decisive move to bring order and cleanliness to one of Bengaluru's busiest commercial hubs, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has introduced a set of strict new rules at KR Market. The initiative aims to regulate waste disposal, unauthorized trading, and general market discipline for both traders and the public.

The civic body is implementing a zero-tolerance approach toward littering. Fixed spots will now be designated for waste disposal, and dumping garbage outside these areas will attract penalties. To ensure compliance, BBMP is installing CCTV cameras throughout the market to monitor waste disposal activities and unauthorized business setups. Officials will conduct round-the-clock surveillance after installation to maintain order.
KR Market currently generates nearly 70 tonnes of waste every day, which is being managed in three daily waste collection shifts. However, improper disposal practices have prompted the need for stricter enforcement. Traders will no longer be allowed to throw waste indiscriminately, and specific zones for garbage collection will be clearly marked and monitored.
In addition to waste control, BBMP is cracking down on unauthorized vending. Street vendors and shopkeepers will be required to operate only within pre-marked zones. Conducting business outside these designated spots or occupying the market's outer areas illegally will not be permitted. To support traffic and mobility, a new parking tender is also being planned.
BBMP Zonal Commissioner Suralkar Vikas Kishore recently visited KR Market to review the situation. Following his inspection, he directed officials to roll out these new rules without delay.
