BBMP might cap the number of dogs per house

Dog owners might be required to seek permission for breeding and selling dogs

Sandalwood actor Darshan’s dog was reported to have bitten a young girl

Bengaluru is a city of dog lovers. But at the same time, there needs to be a recognition of the imminent threats posed by dogs with regard to the safety of the general public and hygiene of a neighbourhood. It is in this regard that the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike in association with the Karnataka Animal Welfare Board is planning to create a set of guidelines for dog owners in the city.

The various lines along which the guidelines are to be designed include limitations pertaining to the number of dogs allowed per household, a fixed timing for the owners to take the dog out on a walk for carrying out it’s bodily functions and the precautionary steps to be taken by the dog owners to ensure that they do not pose a danger to pedestrians and bike riders. Dog owners might be required to seek permission for breeding and selling dogs. The responsibility of ensuring that the dog is not a potential carrier of rabies would lie with the owner.

The number of people breeding dogs in the city has seen a steady and gradual increase. The market for the sale of dogs has seen better returns as a result of this. Recently Sandalwood actor Darshan’s dog was reported to have bitten a young girl. An FIR was filed over this incident.
