The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has served notices to 18, 886 stores across Bengaluru pertaining to the implementation of the rule pertaining to the nameboards maintaining a ratio of 60:40 for Kannada and other languages. Shops face a risk of losing their licence if they do not adhere to these norms. A deadline of February 28th has been given to the shops to change their name board accordingly. They have been warned that their stores will be closed if they fail to meet the standards in this regard.
Of the notices served, there is a high concentration of errant shops in the Mahadevapura and Bommanahalli BBMP zones. The breakdown of the notices as per BBMP zones is as follows. The Bengaluru South zone consists of 2838 shops that have been served a notice. 2477 stores in the Bengaluru West zone have been served a notice. The most number of notices were served in Bommanahalli which received 3881 notices. It was closely followed by Mahadevapura which received 3442 notices. Rajarajeshwari Nagar which received 324 notices recorded the least among all zones. Bengaluru East, Dasrahalli and Yelahanka received 2718, 1378 and 1828 notices respectively. The notices serve a strict warning from the BBMP.
