In a proactive step toward making Bengaluru’s streets more pedestrian-friendly, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has launched a focused initiative to upgrade footpaths along key city roads. BBMP Chief Commissioner, Maheshwar Rao personally inspected a 5.5 km stretch of footpaths along Bannerghatta Main Road, from Dairy Circle to IIMB, aiming to turn it into a model pedestrian corridor.

The commissioner, along with BBMP officials, walked the full stretch to identify problem areas and issued spot instructions for immediate repairs. The directive includes fixing broken slabs and curb stones, leveling elevated portions, and ensuring uniformity in design throughout the path. Particular attention was given to sections near Tavarekere, Jayadeva Hospital, JP Nagar 4th Phase, and the upcoming pink line of the Namma Metro.

The BBMP’s objective is to ensure continuous, hazard-free walkways that promote smooth pedestrian movement. Officials have been asked to maintain consistent quality from start to end and replicate the model across other city roads in the future.
