In response, child rights organizations including the Child Rights Trust (CRT), and the Karnataka Child Rights Observatory (KCRO), have written to School Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa, calling for urgent intervention to uphold these children’s right to education.
The letter highlighted that despite the Right to Education (RTE) Act, which mandates free and compulsory schooling for children aged 6-14, thousands in the city remain outside the education system. The groups have demanded the formation of a committed task force comprising the Education, Labour, Women and Child Development, and Social Welfare Departments including the Police to develop a comprehensive action plan.
The organization raised concerns over why these children had not been integrated into schools despite existing policies. The letter also suggested that many of these authorities might belong to the migrant families, or are included in child labour needing immediate intervention.
The child rights group stressed the need for a detailed study to identify the root causes of school dropouts and urged the government to take swift action to ensure education for all.
