Soon you can avail yourself breakfast for Rs 5, lunch for just Rs 10 at KIA
BBMP received approval from state government, calls for tenders soon
BBMP to increase the number of Indira Canteens from 199 to 250
BBMP is set to open two Indira Canteens at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), allowing passengers to avail themselves of breakfast for Rs 5 and lunch for just Rs 10.
The decision to establish these eateries at the airport has received approval from the state government, and a tender for their implementation will be released soon.
BBMP officials have revealed that the state government has given the green light to increase the number of Indira Canteens from 199 to 250. With 225 wards in the city, BBMP plans to allocate one canteen per ward. Additionally, 25 canteens will be strategically placed in busy locations such as bus stands and general hospitals in and around Bengaluru.
The Indira Canteens at the international airport aim not only to serve the airport staff but also to provide an affordable dining option for taxi and bus drivers.
Criticism surrounding the high prices of food items at airports prompted this initiative. In July, Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy advised BBMP officials to establish an Indira Canteen at KIA, addressing the need for cost-effective food options for cab and bus drivers, as well as the general public.
Previously, the state government had sanctioned the establishment of 199 canteens. Currently, 176, including eight mobile canteens, are operational, while 17 mobile canteens are undergoing renovation.
