The High Court of Karnataka has directed the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to be more vigilant on the pressing issue of encroachments along storm water drains.

 Last month, the court stayed the construction of Sterling Ascentia apartments in Whitefield after it came under the scanner over allegations pertaining to the flouting of rules pertaining to the construction of sites and preservation of natural resources

The BBMP has issued a public notification with a list of contacts for citizens to report such encroachments. The contacts have been distributed as per the zonal division of the city. 

The notification stated, “The Hon'ble High Court of Karnataka vide WP case No. 38401/2014 has directed BBMP to identify and complete survey of all encroachments made over the storm water drain within a time frame of 10 days. In this connection, the public is invited to help BBMP in identifying the encroachments over primary and secondary storm water drains under the jurisdiction of BBMP.Any encroachments reported by the public around and on the storm water drains in the surrounding areas of their residence. such information about such encroachments along with the photograph are to be sent to designated officers by 20-09-2023 within 2.00 PM.”
