In a tragic incident on June 8, 2025, a 28-year-old youth, Manjunath BG, is battling for his life following a road accident caused by the negligence of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). The accident occurred around 1:30 AM near Coffee Day on Dr. Rajkumar Road, Rajajinagar, where BBMP’s ongoing roadwork lacked proper safety measures. Manjunath’s father, Ganesh, has lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at the Rajajinagar Traffic Police Station, naming BBMP, the Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB), and the contractor responsible for the roadwork. The FIR highlights the absence of warning signs, barricades, or adequate lighting at the site, which contributed to the accident.

Ganesh has also filed a complaint with the BBMP Commissioner, demanding accountability for the civic body’s failure to ensure public safety during infrastructure projects. The incident has sparked outrage among residents, who allege that BBMP’s lax oversight during roadworks frequently endangers commuters.

The Rajajinagar Traffic Police have initiated an investigation, focusing on the lack of precautionary measures at the site. This accident underscores the recurring issue of poorly managed civic projects in Bengaluru, raising questions about the coordination between BBMP, contractors, and other agencies As Manjunath fights for recovery, his family and community demand justice and urgent reforms to ensure safer roads in the city.
