  • This flyover to streamline traffic from Nagawara towards Bengaluru airport

Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has proposed the construction of a new flyover at the heavily congested Hebbal junction to streamline traffic from Nagawara towards Kempegowda International Airport (KIA). This move comes after a decade-long delay in completing an additional ramp at the same junction. The proposed flyover will connect the Nagawara side directly to the National Highway leading to KIA.

The BDA board has given the go-ahead for a detailed project report. As part of the plan, the authority is exploring the possibility of utilizing 11 massive pillars erected in 2019 for a previous ramp project. That earlier initiative was halted after the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) raised concerns over its alignment, which would have interfered with future Metro lines. The BDA now intends to assess whether these abandoned pillars can be repurposed in the new flyover design.

Traffic congestion at the Hebbal junction has long plagued commuters, especially those traveling towards Tumakuru Road, KIA, and Mehkri Circle.

The proposed flyover, expected to be under a kilometre in length, will leverage available space near the defence area close to Hebbal Lake, where the National Highways Authority of India is currently widening the road. This infrastructure upgrade aims to ensure smoother access to the airport and ease long-standing traffic woes.
