Union Minister VK Singh furnished a written response in the Rajya Sabha revealing data pertaining to the financial contributions of airports across the country.
The Bengaluru Airport has recorded a profit of Rs 528.30 crore in the year 2022-2023. This makes it one among the three airports operating in the Public-Private Partnership model to have been earning profits. The Cochin Airport that made a profit of Rs 267.13 crore and the Hyderabad airport that made a profit of Rs 32.9 crore in the same year are the other two airports to feature in the list.
Among airports operated by the Airport Authority of India, 12 have been profitable. The airports in Kolkata and Chennai have managed to gather profits exceeding Rs 100. The Calicut airport also earned a profit of Rs 95.3 crore. The Kolkata airport’s profit was Rs 482.3 crore hence placing it below Bengaluru. Bengaluru has emerged as the most profitable airport in the country.
The Ahmedabad airport had the highest loss among airports in India. This was a whopping Rs 408.51 crore. 7 other airports made a loss exceeding Rs 100 crore. These include the Delhi, Lucknow, Mopa, Kannur, Jaipur, Mangaluru and Thiruvananthapuram airports.
