The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has initiated critical electrification trials on the elevated stretch of the forthcoming Pink Line, signaling a significant step toward its phased rollout. The third rail testing, which supplies power to metro trains, is currently underway between Jayadeva and Tavarekere stations.
This milestone marks the beginning of a series of technical evaluations required for commissioning the Pink Line corridor, which spans from Kalena Agrahara in the south to Nagawara in the north. At present, the electrification trials are confined to the elevated segment, and the BMRCL has urged the public to avoid entering the viaduct area due to safety risks during this high-voltage phase.
Following the electrification checks, BMRCL will proceed with validating the signalling systems, conducting telecommunication trials, and carrying out load testing. These assessments are expected to continue over the next four months.
Upon successful completion of these evaluations, the BMRCL will compile detailed safety reports and submit them to the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) for review. The CRS must approve these reports before passenger services can commence on the Pink Line.
While electrification trials have begun on schedule, the delivery and deployment timeline for metro coaches remains crucial. The availability of rolling stock will ultimately determine the operational readiness of the line, influencing when various stretches can be opened for public use.
