Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has confirmed a 41% fare increase effective February 1. Under the revised structure, token fares will range from ₹10 to ₹60, with a 5% discount for Metro card users. The hike, approved by the Fare Fixation Committee (FFC) under the Metro Railways (Operation and Maintenance) Act 2002, is binding and will be implemented as planned.

BMRCL’s board, chaired by Srinivas Katikithala, Secretary of Urban Development Affairs, has already cleared the proposal. Commuters traveling during off-peak hours and users of the National Common Mobility Card will continue to enjoy a 5% discount, similar to Metro smart card holders.
BMRCL officials reportedly confirmed that the hike will follow the FFC’s approved plan without alterations.
While the fare adjustment has been finalized, a scheduled press briefing to provide further details has been postponed to next week, just before the new fares take effect. BMRCL Managing Director Maheshwar Rao assured commuters that more information would be shared soon.
This marks a significant change for Bangalore Metro users, with the fare revision aimed at addressing operational costs and improving service sustainability. However, the announcement has sparked discussions about affordability and public transport accessibility in the city.
