The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has taken a proactive step to ensure the safety of women during travel. In light of rising incidents of harassment, the BMRCL has devised a plan. They have become more vigilant on account of frequent complaints by women. Recently, a man was accused of touching the private body parts of a woman inside the metro.
Heavy fines will be levied on individuals involved in such vulgar fines. An order has been issued in this regard. This is in line with directions from the central government. A fine of Rs 10,000 has to be paid under such circumstances. This is an exponential increase from what was previously being charged. Prior to this order, the fine to be paid was Rs 500. The new amount is 20 times that of what previously existed. It is left to be seen whether this stringent measure will result in a reduction in such cases.
