The BWSSB has provided guidelines for the judicious use of water. Cauvery water cannot be used for washing vehicles, handwashing, construction of buildings, fountains or by malls and cinema halls for non-drinking purposes. This is even applicable for the construction of roads, maintenance of roads and garbage clearance. The BWSSB had warned the people of Bengaluru that using Cauvery water for washing cars will attract a fine of Rs 5000. However such violations were noted despite clear instructions.
Officials of the Bangalore Metropolitan Transportation Corporation (BMTC) had earlier complained that the water available to the staff in bus stops is polluted. They also complained about the lack of water in toilets attached to bus stops. They had stated that due to the intense heat, the 5-6 litres of water they bring from their home for duty proves to be insufficient.
