  • Bengaluru braces for colder winter due to La Niña and heavy rainfall
  • Dense fog forms on outskirts from moisture buildup and temperature drops
  • Sharp contrast: chilly nights (12-14°C) but warm days (28-30°C).

Known for its mild and moderate climate, Bengaluru is preparing for a colder-than-usual winter this year, with temperatures already dipping below 20°C. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the chill is expected to intensify in the coming months due to ongoing La Niña conditions and heavy monsoon rainfall. The minimum temperature could drop further to between 12°C and 14°C in December and January.

The city is experiencing significant weather changes, including dense fog on the outskirts during recent mornings. This fog results from moisture buildup on the surface following heavy rains. As temperatures dip at night, this moisture turns into thick fog, especially noticeable in peripheral areas. The absence of cloud cover and increased moisture levels have contributed to a more intense cold spell.

While nighttime temperatures are dropping, daytime highs are expected to remain around 28-30°C. This sharp contrast between warm, humid days and cold nights is challenging Bengaluru's typically stable climate. The IMD attributes this shift to moisture in the air and the influence of weather systems over the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea, further impacting temperature variations. Residents are advised to prepare for fluctuating weather conditions in the coming months.
