The Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has initiated a specialized task force named the 'Blue Force' to address the growing concerns of illegal water theft and unauthorized sewage connections in the city. The 'Blue Force' is tasked with identifying and rectifying unauthorized connections, which have been a significant issue in Bengaluru. These illegal connections not only lead to water wastage but also put immense pressure on the city's sewage infrastructure, often resulting in overflows and environmental hazards. The team will employ advanced technology and surveillance methods to detect and dismantle these unauthorized setups.

BWSSB has allocated a monthly budget of Rs 50 lakh for the operations of the 'Blue Force'. This investment underscores the seriousness with which the board is tackling this issue. The funds will be utilized for manpower, equipment, and other operational expenses necessary for the task force to function effectively.

In addition to the 'Blue Force', BWSSB has been actively working on other initiatives to improve water management in the city. Recent reports indicate that the board has identified and regularized over 5,600 illegal sewer connections, collecting approximately Rs 100 crore in fines and service fees. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to enhance the efficiency of water distribution and sewage treatment systems in Bengaluru.
