The shortage of drinking water has been plaguing Bengaluru.Coupled with this is an increase in temperature. The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has come up with an important decision in light of this crisis.

There are currently 3 lakh water connections across Bengaluru that draw huge amounts of  Cauvery water. The BWSSB has published an order that the quantity of water being drawn from these connections will reduce by 20% by April 1st. There will be a meeting conducted by the BWSSB with prominent customers who draw water in such quantities.

It must be remembered that Bengaluru has a population of close to 1.4 crore. This reduction will be done in a phase wise manner starting from March 15th. Chairman of the BWSSB Dr V Ram Prasath Manohar requested for cooperation from the customers in question for the successful implementation of this order.

Earlier, orders preventing the usage of drinking water to clean cars and to operationalise colour fountains were given. Rs 5000 was stipulated as the fine for the violation of this order. 1916 was the number provided to citizens to report violations. There was however exemption for state and national level sports contests in this regard.
