In a bold and innovative proposal submitted to the Government of Karnataka, civic thinker and filmmaker Shivakumar C S Gowda has laid out a plan that could potentially solve the chronic traffic congestion around KR Market particularly and also in Bengaluru in just one day, without the need for flyovers, underpasses, or expensive infrastructure.

This low-cost, high-impact idea revolves around utilizing existing roads and idle spaces more efficiently. The model identifies non-utilized areas, suggests minimal structural changes, and recommends intelligent traffic diversions that can be implemented immediately with basic groundwork.
For instance, vehicles moving from Town Hall toward KR Market can be diverted through a small cut in the median, allowing them to take a right turn smoothly, while straight-moving vehicles wait for just 30 seconds before accessing the Mysuru Road flyover. Similarly, traffic from Victoria Hospital will flow through a three-lane intersection, separating vehicles by intended direction, left, straight, or right, avoiding unnecessary congestion.
A key congestion point under the flyover at KR Market has also been addressed. The plan suggests creating a gap in the divider for vehicles taking a right turn under the flyover, allowing free-flow movement toward Kalasipalyam while maintaining the signal for straight-moving vehicles.
Shivakumar, who is also a film director, emphasized that this is not a cinematic idea but a practical urban mobility solution grounded in on-field observation. He has even authored a book on traffic solutions and is requesting an opportunity from authorities to implement the model as a pilot.
