In a shocking case of betrayal and theft, a caretaker in Bengaluru has been arrested for allegedly looting valuables worth over Rs 1.57 crore from the home where she was employed. The complaint was filed by Radha, a resident of Chamarajpet, who lives in a joint family. Her elder sister Sujatha had been bedridden for the last eight months. To assist with her care, a private security agency had appointed Uma. Over time, Uma gained the family’s trust while silently plotting the heist.

According to Radha, the family had stored Rs 67 lakh in cash from a recent property sale, along with gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 95 lakh, inside a bedroom cupboard. On June 9, Radha discovered that both the cash and the jewellery were missing. Suspicion immediately fell on Uma, who had been seen leaving the house with a bag on June 4 morning and returning later that evening.

Upon reviewing CCTV footage, Uma’s movements confirmed suspicions. When questioned, she initially denied involvement, prompting the family to approach the Chamarajpet police. Uma was taken into custody and during interrogation, she confessed to the theft. A portion of the stolen gold and cash, estimated to be worth Rs 60 lakh was recovered from her daughter’s house.
